6 Principles for the 2020s

We’ve crossed the chasm. Instead of dreaming about the future, the future has arrived. Finally. It’s here. Do not wait any longer. It’s now. Make the best of it.

Here are my principles for the decade of the 2020s:

Principle 1: Digitisation everything.
We’ve seen the low hanging fruits being turned into digital products first disrupting entire industries. First music/film/photos/mail, than friendships/love/indentions/locations, next everything else. Electricity, transportation, health, money, work,… You name the product/service/industry and I can come up with ways to revolutionise it. Make it better. 10x, 100x, 1000x. Embrace it. Get ready, be ready. Learn. Grow. Flow with it.

Principle 2: The era of action.
The interconnected world is speeding up. Leverages skills. Amplifies outcomes. Exponentially. Taking action is the core skill. If you don’t, someone else will. A mediocre decision now is better than a deferred decision. Once action is taken you can readjust and fine tune. Get off zero. Get going. Starting is key. The first step will put you in front and opens all opportunities for you.

Principle 3: Focus your perspective.
What is your vision? How do you see yourself in the future? Imagine, feel it, smell the air. Now look at your current situation, given skills and resources. How can you put those into action to get you one step closer to your vision? Be specific. Forget the daily chatter, the random noise around you. Media wants to grab your attention. Don’t let them. Prioritise. You have more important things to do. Take care of your future self. No one else will but you.

Principle 4: Uncertainty is certain.
Do you want to know what will happen tomorrow? Can we? No. Don’t try. Give it up. Unpredictable events. Unknown unknowns. The world is complex. Irrational. Black box. Focus on what you can control. For you and your future self. Attitude, effort, grid, ideas, creativity, laughing, love. If you put those to work, you can start to rely on the only constant in your life. You will always be here.

Principle 5: Change opens opportunities.
There’s two sides to a coin. No matter what. See the light coming through the clouds. Even the biggest disaster opens new paths. It’s easy to complain, to blame, to point fingers. This isn’t helping. It’s doing the opposite. You give power away. Out of control. Take back the steering wheel. It’s up to. No one else. The sooner you realise there’s an endless sea of opportunities, a magic fountain of energy is released. You decide.

Principle 6: Responsibility for all.
Take the shackles off and take responsibility. Health. Finances. Work. Happiness. You can do it all better. Governments and institutions are outdated and flawed. Ineffective. Expensive. Show me the incentives and I show you the outcome.Institutions run by bureaucrats secure their own existence. The healthcare system doesn’t want you to be healthy. Banks don’t grow your savings. Your employer can fire you anytime. The sovereign individual has arrived.

Onwards and upwards.
